The blessed month of Ramadhan has approached us. It is very important to understand that the fact that we live to face yet another blessed month of Ramadhan is itself a very big favour that Allah has bestowed upon us. Let us face this month with a resolute and determined character with the aim of gaining as much reward as one could possibly get.
No other worldly activity is as fruitful as what we will Insh’Allah be engaging ourselves into which is fasting for the sake of Allah’s pleasure.
You must have come across similar encouragement somewhere in text or through someone who wishes the best for you.
But the main purpose of lettering this message is to make you aware of some of the most basic and simple Prophetic Hadith related to the majestic month of Ramadhan that will benefit you once you familiarise yourself with them.
It may be Hadith that you are already aware of, but the beauty of our Prophet Mohammed’s صلى الله عليه و سلم (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) Hadith is such that it instils a sense of joy and willingness to act no matter how many times we read it.
We intend to establish in you and in ourselves the urge of being active in doing more than we are capable of in order to make the best use of the Blessed Month.
We advise you not to rush through the following Hadith, rather memorize it or at least the concept of it so that you may be able to revise it in your heart every day in order to strengthen your will towards fasting and performing other righteous deeds with sincerity towards Allah Alone.

1) Paradise
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 123
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu (May Allah be pleased with him):
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.”
Bukhari :: Book 3 :: Volume 31 :: Hadith 120
Narrated by Sahl RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, ‘Where are those who used to observe fasts?’ They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it.”
Sunan al-Tirmidhī 682; Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “On the first night of the month of Ramadan, the devils are chained, the jinn are restrained, and the gates of Hellfire are closed and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed. A caller announces: O seeker of good, come near! O seeker of evil, stop short! Allah will save them from the Hellfire and that is during every night of Ramadan.”

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever believes in Allah and His Apostle, offer prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah’s Cause or remains in the land where he is born.” The people said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ! Shall we acquaint the people with the is good news?” He said, “Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise.” (i.e. The sub-narrator added, “I think the Prophet also said, ‘Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.”)
2) Forgiveness
Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 37
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever observes fasts during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.”
Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 36
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven.”

Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s rewards (not to show off) then all his past sins will be forgiven.”
3) The reward of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’la
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 128
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Allah said, ‘All the deeds of Adam’s sons (people) are for them, except fasting which is for Me, and I will give the reward for it.’
Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 629
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said that your Lord said, “Every (sinful) deed can be expiated; and the fast is for Me, so I will give the reward for it; and the smell which comes out of the mouth of a fasting person, is better in Allah’s Sight than the smell of musk.”

Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Allah said: The Fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it, as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake. Fasting is a screen (from Hell) and there are two pleasures for a fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in Allah’s Sight than the smell of musk.” (See Hadith No. 128, Vol. 3).
Muslim :: Book 6 : Hadith 2567
Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu reported:
Allah’s Messenger Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam as saying: Every (good) deed of the son of Adam would be multiplied, a good deed receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward. Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, has said: With the exception of fasting, for it is done for Me and I will give a reward for it, for one abandons his passion and food for My sake. There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts, joy when he breaks it, and joy when he meets his Lord, and the breath (of an observer of fast) is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.
Al-Tirmidhi (806) narrated that Abu Dharr RadhiAllahu ‘anhu said:
The Messenger of Allaah Sallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said: “Whoever prays qiyaam – i.e., Taraweeh – with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded as if he spent the whole night in prayer.”
Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.
Saheeh at-Targheeb wa Tarheeb v. 1 p. 260
The Messenger of Allah Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever provides Iftaar for a person who is fasting, will have similar in reward as him (i.e. the fasting person).”
4) The Acceptance of Dua
Narrated by Ahmad (8030) from Abu Hurayrah RadhiAllahu ‘anhu
The Prophet Sallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said: “There are three whose dua will not be rejected: a just ruler, a fasting person until he breaks the fast, and the prayer of one who has been wronged.”
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Book 7, Hadith 1753
Narrated by ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Messenger of Allah Salllahu Alayhi wa Sallam said: “When the fasting person breaks his fast, his supplication is not turned back.”
5) Avoiding evil actions
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 127
Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)”
Muslim :: Book 6 : Hadith 2563
Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu reported:
“When any one of you gets up in the morning in the state of fasting, he should neither use obscene language nor do any act of ignorance. And if anyone slanders him or quarrels with him, he should say: I am fasting, I am fasting.”
Malik :: Book 18 : Hadith 18.22.57
Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu’z Zinad from al-A’raj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Fasting is a protection for you, so when you are fasting, do not behave obscenely or foolishly, and if any one argues with you or abuses you, say, ‘I am fasting. I am fasting.’ ”
6) Food and drink
Bukhari :: Book 3 :: Volume 31 :: Hadith 146
Narrated by Anas bin Malika RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it.”
Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 10 :: Hadith 550
Narrated by Qatada
Anas bin Malik RadhiAllahu Anhu said, “The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam and Zaid bin Thabit RadhiAllahu Anhu took the ‘Suhur’ together and after finishing the meal, the Prophet stood up and prayed (Fajr prayer).” I asked Anas, “How long was the interval between finishing their ‘Suhur’ and starting the prayer?” He replied, “The interval between the two was just sufficient to recite fifty ‘Ayat.” (Verses of the Quran).”

Narrated by Abu Huraira RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “If somebody eats something forgetfully while he is fasting, then he should complete his fast, for Allah has made him eat and drink.”
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31, Number 178
Narrated by Sahl bin Sad RadhiAllahu Anhu:
Allah’s Apostle Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said, “The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast.”
Dawud :: Book 13 : Hadith 2348
Narrated by Salman ibn Amir RadhiAllahu Anhu:
The Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi wa sallam said: “When one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates; but if he cannot get any, then (he should break his fast) with water, for water is purifying.”
