Let’s start this poem with a simple question
On Facebook and Twitter, what was the last thing you mentioned? Was it someone’s marriage or your best friend’s birthday?
Or enjoyment with family at a picnic some Sunday?Whatever the case may be, did you ever try to contemplate?
That our lives were different before these new things were madeOur lives were peaceful and joyous before signing up at social media
Feeling contented with Yahoo Messenger, Google and WikipediaInternet was used more for work rather than leisure
Unlike today, wherein it is used by the youth for haraam pleasureFeeling delight in interacting with opposite gender via chatting
We often forget the fact that Allah is always watchingBe it posting a status update or changing your profile picture
Or updates of sports news where some cricketer hits a sixerDid you ever try to comprehend upon its philosophy?
“You like mine and I’ll like yours back”, this is usually the mentalityBelieve it or not, it’s just a ‘like-comment’ game
At the end of the day, it’s all about gaining fameThe more people like, the more ‘Serotonin*’ is released
Yet the greediness of this son of Aadam is difficult to ceaseIf you don’t agree with me, do this small exercise
Recall the last time you opened your post to check the no. of likesI know it’s sad but it’s true about these new inventions
I think this is enough to show the level of our obsessionNow, what’s the solution to this problem talked about?
First and foremost Allah’s aid should be soughtFollowing that, we need to set our priorities straight
Along with learning to manage time in this caseRemember that each and every second that we are enjoying
We will be questioned about it on the Day of ReckoningTime once gone, can never be brought back
Even though some may wish for it but it would be too late to realize thatTick-tock tick-tock, is how the clock runs every second
Yesterday we were born, today we are here & we don’t know whether we will live till the next momentTill when will you sleep, O slave of your maker!
Open your eyes, wake up, before it’s time to meet your Creator

*Serotonin: Serotonin is called the happiness hormone. Serotonin regulates the mood, prevents depression and makes us feel happy.
We are living in times wherein most of the people, especially the youth are so obsessed with the usage of social media that it has become almost impossible for us now, to imagine our lives without these applications. Be it Whatsapp, Facebook or Twitter, they seem to have replaced many things in our lives today.
This poem is intended to bring awareness to this problem and help others in trying to limit its usage as much as possible.
